The beginnings of the town date back to XIV century. The latter history of Konstantynów Łódzki is linked to the person of Mikołaj Krzywiec -Okołowicz. In 1821 he founded a weaving village located in the area of Żabice Wielkie, for which he chose the name Konstantynów. A fast-growing settlement received the town privileges in 1830 that were later lost in 1870, and then regained in 1924. The town character was from its beginning - industrial, the majority of its inhabitants were employed in the cotton and cloth industries and a large group in trade and services.
SPORT AND LEISURE
Since 1996, there is modern, well equipped indoor swimming pool (gym, jacuzzi, steam and Finnish saunas) available for any fan of water sports. In 2007, the new indoor sports hall was opened to public and in 2008; Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Sport Mirosław Drzewiecki kicked the ball on the first in the region of Łódź set of playing fields “My Orlik 2012”.
Konstantynów Łódzki is town with vibrant cultural life. There are various dance and music groups, some with almost 100 years history, namely: Fryderyk Chopin’s Singing and Musical Association of Konstantynów Łódzki and Singing Association „Lutnia”. Recently opened art gallery “Ogrody sztuki” holds numerous exhibitions of photographs and paintings throughout the whole year. Cultural life of Konstantynów Łódzki is also animated by Municipal Public Library, which promotes literature through meeting with authors and readers contests. In the 2006, through the joint initiative of local educational and social activists with local government employees the first dissertation on Konstatynów Łódzki was published. In terms of historic research, this is our town’s first complex volume. Reporting the local life important happenings in print is done by few local newspapers, among them Kurier GCI and Wiadomości-43bis.
