Bełchatów is a town located in the centre of Poland, in the southern part of the Łódzkie Voivodeship at the E67 road, which at the Polish section is the national road number 8 that connects Warsaw (150 km from Bełchatów) with Wrocław (184 km from Bełchatów) and then with a border crossing in Kudowa Zdrój at the border between Poland and the Czech Republic. The area of Bełchatów is 35 km2 and the population of the town is almost 60 000. The town is located in the place free of threats caused by natural disasters without strong winds or floods.
The biggest employer for inhabitants of Bełchatów is the Brown Coal Mine, which is the largest mine of this type in Central Europe, and the Bełchatów Power Plant, both coming within the concern of PGE SA.
They employ over 10 500 persons in total. The Bełchatów Mining and Power District may produce the energy of 5382 MW. The power plant in Bełchatów produces approximately 27-28 TWh of energy a year, i.e. 20% of total energy produced in Poland.
What is interesting, 35 km from Bełchatów there is the 32nd Base of Tactical Air Force, where a sub-unit of the American Aviation Detachment is stationed on a rotation basis.
